WIGAN & LEIGH HOSPICE

This was purpose built to replace an existing hospice housed in a converted Victorian house. All bed spaces are arranged in a curve facing views to the south west. There are full length doors to outside seating areas for every patient. A multi-faith oratory is at the heart of the plan adjacent to a central courtyard giving light and green space to the surrounding offices. This courtyard is also visible from the entrance foyer and throughout the building. Light floods into the seating areas along the corridors and the surrounding landscape is visible at every turn.

Winner of a Wigan Civic Trust Award.

Commendation from Manchester Society of Architecture in the Landscape Award.
