The office was established in 1962 offering full architectural services from inception to completion. We undertake a wide range of work, both conservation contracts and new build, including interiors and the design of furniture and fittings.
Each project is unique, needing careful analysis of requirements, planning and visual issues. No ready-made solutions are used and we work alongside other specialists where appropriate. We have a reputation for close attention to detail and a thorough knowledge of traditional construction methods, as well as the ability to create key-note solutions where appropriate. New insertions into existing settings have become a feature of many of our recent projects, with schemes that are sensitive to their surroundings yet full of flair and individuality.
We have had considerable success with grant aid applications and long experience in working with English Heritage and the Lottery Fund. Anthony Grimshaw works as an English Heritage Commissioned Architect, assessing Heritage Lottery applications in the North West.
We are on the approved lists of Architects for the Blackburn, Bradford, Liverpool and Manchester dioceses. Currently, Quinquennial Inspections are carried out for 53 buildings, Listed Grade I, Grade II*, and Grade II and ranging from early medieval parish churches to more recent structures. Anthony Grimshaw sits on the Diocesan Advisory Committees for the Care of Churches in the Liverpool and Manchester Dioceses and is a life member of the Ancient Monument Society.
The expertise of the office extends equally to Listed secular buildings; we are working on vernacular farms, timber framed houses and Georgian residences. Our partners are Chartered Architects, two are Accredited Architects in Building Conservation and members of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. All our architects are RIBA members and we employ only qualified staff.
